Charles Phillips and the Growth of Oracle

Garnering praise for his success as a managing director at Morgan Stanley, he was noticed by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle. It was a huge gamble to make him the VP of corporate strategy, but it really paid off. Once Charles Phillips CEO was on board, Oracle’s revenue skyrocketed along with his stellar career. During his first year (2004), he received a hefty $280,000 bonus because of Oracle’s steady growth. However, it did not stay there. His bonuses grew far beyond 6 digits. In 2005, he received a whopping $2.82 million. Nevertheless, in 2007, he received an eye popping $3.78 million. 48 years old at that time, Charles Phillips was one of the highest paid non-CEO in the industry. And there are plenty of reasons why.

Charles Phillips CEO introduced Oracle 11g, the first major database upgrade in four years. Database and Middleware are the largest part of Oracle profits, which amount to $7.99B in fiscal year 2007, ahead of application sales which amount to $3.56B. But it does not stop there. App sales are continually growing with new license sales increase at 66% and maintenance climbing at 75%. Compared to the single-digit percentage increase in database and middleware, app sales are definitely soaring.

With Charles Phillips CEO, customer relations improved a great deal. Before he joined the company, customers received standard letters from Oracle that had comforting messages that the “everything will be okay” feel, almost computer generated. But it changed. It became more personal. People filled up board room meetings and working with user groups to better know the needs of their customers. This showed that Charles Phillips CEO was genuinely concerned and interested with the customers and what they had to say.

Aside from Apps sales and Database and Middleware, Oracle wants to expand its range in industry-specific applications such as communications billing, utility billing, and core banking. To achieve this, Oracle has to push its acquisition strategies to gain more companies. With Charles Phillips CEO holding the ball, they have acquired Peoplesoft, Hyperion Solutions, and Seibel Systems among others. From Wall Street to Silicon Valley, Larry Ellison’s gamble has indeed paid off.

Compassion and caring for helping people is what drives the business of Andy Ahern. He desires to help trucking companies to recover from their losses. And to do this, Andy Ahern, President and CEO of Ahern and Associates take a sobering and thorough look at his client’s finances. He makes his clients understand that the trucking industry is a “pennies business” which is why it is very necessary to pinch every last one of them if the goal is to reduce operating costs. He educates his clients to know the cost every time a truck is dispatched for a load. His approach in evaluating a client’s circumstances is very clinical but that technique has often born fruit. They also offer assistance and advice to those in the trucking agency through a variety of ways, including live podcasts on Ahern and Associates website, weekly newsletters, and speaking engagements and seminars.

Ahern and Associates even has a free hotline that truck carriers and transportation companies can call, allowing them to speak with an Ahern auditor for a free one hour consultation. To Andy Ahern, those genuine efforts to help people conjure up more opportunities than any marketing campaign or advertisement. Andy Ahern doesn’t do all these things for the money anymore. He continues to help companies recoup and recover from their own misfortunes through his own experience and expertise. One can say that he has found his vocation in life.
